Project – 50 Days of Grey – Day 43

50 Days of Grey – a scaled down 365!
DAY 43 – “Liquid”

I couldn’t let a project about black and white go on for fifty days without including the obvious could I?!!

All in the cause of art, oh well! 🙂

DAY 37 – “Remote”

A quite surreal image today, the flood waters rise and envelope the park. All around there is a river, so you can walk in a few inches and then drop into several feet of water.

Worth a return with the D700.

Project – 50 Days of Grey – Day 16

DAY 16 – “Old Rope

Day sixteen and a trip to the river Hamble. I had taken the SLR but the weather was so bad that did not want to take it out of the bag, when will this rain ever stop?!

This is where the trusty iphone came into use. I am pleased with this little set of images, I think I will return when it is dry and take some more. I plan to return and take a long exposure picture of the buoys bobbing in the water, need to take a tripod too and an ND filter.

By for now 🙂

Project – 50 Days of Grey – Day 8

50 Days of Grey – a scaled down 365!
DAY 8 – “Victoria”

Day eight and another dog walk by the beach provides some images. I am learning to get something from not very much with this photography project! I am though building enough images in the library now and accumulating quite a lot of editing!

I use Lightroom to edit an it is quite quick to use. The only thing I don’t get on with is the Print option! I transfer back to photoshop to produce the logo and borders, I am sure there must be quicker ways to do this!

Have a good day 🙂

Project – 50 Days of Grey – Day 6

DAY 6 – “Blown Away”

black and white photography

Oyster Catchers

A challenging shoot. The wind and sea spray make no friend of the Nikon! I walked for a while trying to take long exposures with the neutral grad of the rough sea. Sadly these turned out to be not very exciting!

On the way to the car my dog spooked some resting Oyster Catchers. I managed to fire of a series of images that would make a nice triptych.

Project 50 Days of Grey is certainly keeping me busy but I am pleased with some of the results. Trying to get an image a day (new image) in the bag is challenging. The good thing is im taking stuff all the time and thinking a lot!

Pop over to my Facebook page to see some colour results from 50 Days.. 🙂

Enjoy 🙂

I have plenty of those!

I woke up this morning rather early (couldn’t sleep!), to notice the wonderful sunrise and frost pocket. This was laced with a hint of mist.

Quick grab the camera!, I thought to myself. Then I had a moments thought and said “another frosty sunrise, who needs that!”. On reflection I have folders and folders of un-edited frosty pictures. So I flicked on the kettle, stayed in the warm, and fired up the Mac!

I love looking back at files with fresh eyes. Here are a couple of images, taken at different times and with different cameras. One is taken with the Nikon D7000 the other with the D700, can you tell which! Both images processed RAW files in Lightroom.

Try something new

skate board
Just a chance outing with the camera led me to try something I had not done in a long time.

I had popped out to finish a black and white film in the Voigtlander. I was finding it hard to shoot anything suitable and while sitting around waiting for a street opportunity to arise I noticed these guys doing some tricks.

I am not one to strike up conversation with strangers and they probably found it weird too. After handing the skater guys my business card I introduced myself and asked if I could take some pictures. I hope they email their details soon as I have some great shots.

Do you try different stuff to test yourself??

Images taken with Nikon D700.

Websites, social media and me..

So the storm has passed safely with out too much ado!

black and white landscape image by Paul Murphy

Image taken in Portsmouth, England shortly after a bad storm.

I have been having a long look at my business recently and especially the way I market images. I currently have about 80% of my income from wedding photography and the rest from commercial work. Ideally I would like 50% wedding, 25% commercial, 25% print sales.
At present I have three websites in use, as well as numerous social network platforms. To be honest it is so confusing but the one that works for me is Facebook for wedding social.
I should be heading over to Google+ but the thought of yet another social platform scares me! So on this note.. this particular WordPress blog will now become somewhere to show my personal images, landscapes and street photography.
I currently use Smugmug to sell images through, which works for me at present. I am however looking at other avenues including Etsy, but this seems to be saturated unless I can think of different products to sell. I would love to hear how you manage all of your websites, blogs and social activity. Speak a little bit more soon. Murf.

Its that time of year…

Whilst out walking the dog today I walked past the vineyard. The sun was shinning and never to miss a photo opportunity I noticed the grapes had been harvested. I quickly returned home to grab the camera gear to return to the grapes. When I arrived at the vineyard again they were just about to be loaded onto transport to the winery.

I asked the owner if I could take some pictures and gave him my commercial business card, he was very obliging and quite informative. The grapes were picked a few hours before and crated ready for despatch. All these lovely, sweet (I had a taste!) grapes will be made into English sparkling wine. I think this is a lovely set of commercial produce images which could be used in various settings.
